Why You Should Never Buy Knockoff Dolls

Sometimes, it's tempting to purchase a knockoff doll because they're cheaper, but don't be fooled.   Most knockoff dolls are not worth even the few dollars you pay!   I'm not talking about My Life or Our Generation, which are "knockoffs" of American Girl, but dolls that use the same names and images for their dolls as the real thing.   Most of the time, this happens with Disney merchandise.   Here are a few reasons that you should NOT buy knockoff dolls.   I will be using Frozen dolls as an example, because they are the most counterfeited dolls lately.

Reason #1: They don't ship as nicely.

This poor Youtuber discovered the hard way that "fakeys" (as they're called in the doll world) don't come in such great condition as the real thing.   When ordering from the Disney Store or from Amazon, the boxes are fully padded with paper or air bags.   I've ordered three of my dolls from Disney and three from Amazon, and each came with their boxes fully in tact.   (The other two dolls of mine were pre-loved from Ebay.)

Reason #2: They're not as pretty.

The Disney Store's Frozen dolls are very absolutely stunning!     Sometimes they even come with lovely accessories.   These dolls, however, are not-so-stunning, and not even movie accurate.   These dolls' extra dresses have nothing to do with the film, and this Anna doll is blond with no bangs and no white streak through her hair.

Reason #3: Fakeys are dangerous.
via
This article looked into some fakeys and discovered that they are very flammable!    Another article tells us that fakeys have harmful toxic chemicals in them.   These dolls are definitely NOT safe for children.   I would hate it if a child got deathly ill from enjoying a toy of his/her favorite character!   Imagine trying to explain to a little kid that they can't play with their favorite toy anymore because it's making them sick!

In conclusion, fake dolls are unsafe and should not be purchased.   I will be posting a companion to this post soon about how to shop diligently, so stay tuned!   Also, if you're curious about fakeys, I recommend this post from The Toy Box Philosopher.   She really gets into the lack of quality in counterfeit dolls.

May all of your dreams come true,
Cindy Rose

  1. Ah, yes. I was looking for two Anna and Elsa dolls (my old ones were really worn out). Anyway, the seller on Ebay TRICKED lots of people (including me) by putting a Disney Store picture on there, and then shipping me fakeys! They are terrible quality. Anna's skirt doesn't even have velcro to hold it up. Elsa came with pink shoes.
    Don't buy fakeys. O.o

    1. That's terrible! :( Maybe you can sell them on Ebay (saying that they're fake, of course) because many doll reviewers like to have fakeys for comparison. ~Cindy

  2. Fakeys scare me. I was going to get a set to add to my collection, but then I read about how they are toxic and now I'm thinking that that's not going to happen. :P

    1. Fakeys scare me too, which is why I wrote this. No one should buy or sell fakeys, especially when you fool customers! ~Cindy

  3. I don't think so,it's because i'm nuying knock off dolls not through online, but through shopping, and i don't know if they are toxic because i'm buying knock off dolls since i was little....and nothing happened to me....i'm nuying knock off dolls because we can't afford expensive original dolls,so,i just have few of the original dolls...and for me,fakies are good replacement, but first, before i buy knock off dolls,i'm making sure if the quality is good,if it is accurate to the original dolls, even if not fully accurate, and the price,if it is slightly expensive, not expensive as the originals, and has the look and quality i want,i bet on it!!but i'm not happy in other knock offs, because they're like scraps that irritate and annoy me,hehe, because their looks and they are not accurate to the original dolls....but,yes,i agree of not recommending the knock off dolls...

    1. There are a few places that sell fakeys that aren't dangerous. I've seen several knock-off Monster High dolls in Dollar General that were perfectly safe, if a bit cheep looking. I'm glad you've found some dolls that work for you! ☺ ~Cindy

  4. I have shopped a lot on eBay for Equestria Girls dolls, and I've always got the real thing. Plus, I don't get easily fooled by fakies whatsoever. Besides, I never had any fakies. I just dislike them. I stick with authentic dolls.
